
This is my favorite single origin Michel Cluizel chocolate. You can taste the terroir in every bite. To me, it tastes the the soil its grown in; rich, complex and dark.
This plantation - Mokaya - is situated in the Chiapas region, the cradle of cocoa, which extends to the border of Guatemala, in Mexico. Almost 2000 years before this era, the Mokayas, fishermen indigenous people, were fond of a drink made from cocoa pulp or seeds: the first “chocolate” in the world, called “kakawa”.
